Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:  Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

A Sunday Tidbit

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend?  Or, someone you considered a friend?  It is one of the most painful broken hearts and it is natural to want to return the favor.  Seek revenge.  Yet, spiritually, we are instructed to pray for those who offend us:  “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with a blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9 NIV).  When the offense is recent and the pain raw, this instruction is the last thing one wants to hear.  Why should I pray for someone who deceived me?  That is foolish behavior according the logic of the worldly. Yet, it is that practice that distinguishes us as Christians.  The world may think you are foolish, however, according to Jesus, “You have heard it was said, “Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you:  Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He caused the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?” (Matt 5:43-46, NIV).

Today, if you are harboring ill feelings towards someone for an offense done years in the past or just five minutes ago, stop and take the time to pray for him or her and for yourself so may mature in the Lord and continue on the path that leads to the ultimate goal – eternity with God, our Father.
